“The role of sex and ovarian hormones in pain-induced facilitation of opioid intake”

Opioid analgesics can alleviate pain symptoms but also have considerable addiction potential. Endogenous opioids and opioid analgesics alike also modulate reward, stress and negative affect –processes typically dysregulated in drug addiction. Dr. Moron-Concepcion will present findings on how inflammatory pain increases fentanyl self-administration in rodents, with a focus on sex differences and ovarian hormones.
